Barium Sulfate For Plastic
Barium sulfate is used in plastics to reduce resin demand due tp its fine tensile strength and ductility. The density of barite is much higher than most mineral fillers and is used to weight plastic parts. Barium sulfate can be used as a TiO2 extender to reduce cost. The refractive index for barium sulfate is very high and only second to that of titanium dioxide. Calcium carbonate is compounded into plastic and rubber compounds to reduce overall costs in formulations.
